Below, you will find a variety of websites, which provide financial information and advice aimed at consumers. You will also find websites that have been specifically designed for teaching and learning.

MABS.ie

The Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS) is the State’s money advice service, guiding people through dealing with problem debt for more than 20 years, with expertise in personal and consumer debt.

Young Enterprise

Young Enterprise is the UK’s leading financial education charity. This site provides resources and lesson plans, help and advice to anyone teaching children and young people about money.

Oide

Oide is a support service for teachers and school leaders, funded by the Department of Education and Youth. It aims to support the transformation of education in Ireland by empowering teachers and school leaders to create dynamic and impactful learning experiences for all students, while ensuring coherence across the continuum of teacher learning provision.

Animoto

 Animoto can create presentations incorporating images, video clips, music and text

Coggle

Coggle is a free, web-based mind-mapping software. It allows users to create sprawling documents organized around hierarchical thoughts. In addition to that, you can share documents with others in real time.

EDPuzzle

With EDPuzzle, you can take a video from YouTube, edit it to the section you need, add your voice and add questions to the video.

Explain Everything

Explain Everything is a unique interactive whiteboard and screencasting app that lets you annotate, animate, narrate, import, and export almost anything to and from almost anywhere. It can be downloaded as an app for student devices.

Kahoot

Kahoot is a game-based classroom response system for schools. Use it to create and ask thought provoking questions in a game type format. These quizzes can be used as a whole class activity or by individual students in school or at home.

Khan Academy

Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard for teachers and learners. Students can use the videos to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. In the finance and capital markets section, there are a range of videos that explain concepts such as mortgages, interest and inflation. The information is US centric.

OneNote

Microsoft OneNote is like a 3-ring binder in a digital form. You and your students can use it as a digital notebook to organise to capture ideas, to-do lists, learning resources, and help manage content for each topic and lesson. OneNote also has possibilities in terms of supporting the Money Matters assessment for certification tasks (Reflection Journal and Project Record).

Poster My Wall

With Poster My Wall you can upload a background image for a poster or choose one from the site, including plain colour. Digital download is free but prints are not. Once a background is chosen, customising with text and clipart works easily. No need to register unless you want the site to save.

Prezi

Prezi provides an online alternative to the traditional PowerPoint presentations.

PowToon

PowToon is an online presentation software tool that allows you to create animated video explainers – for business or education.

Puzzlemaker

Puzzlemaker supports students to develop crossword puzzles, word searches, mazes, cryptograms, and more based on topic vocabulary and concepts.

StudyStack

StudyStack provides a range of free flashcards for classroom assessment or student revision. You can create your own flashcards or use sets shared by other students and teachers.

As this is a US site, many of the flashcard sets are US centric – be aware that US regulations can vary from Irish regulations. Studystack is free to use but does contain click advertising.

TED Ed

TED provides hundreds of inspirational speech videos on a whole range of topics from globalisation to global warming. TED Ed augments these videos with lesson ideas which are useful for developing academic study skills such as note-taking, as well as for focusing on specific topics in class.

YouTube

YouTube is a free video sharing site where users can upload, view and share videos. Use the search facility in YouTube to find videos that relate to your topic. Always vet the videos before you show them in class.
