Activity 1: Fill in the blanks
Step-by-step instructions
1. Write the following statement on the white/blackboard: ‘Consumers have the same rights buying in the sales as they do at any other time of the year’.
2. Ask for a show of hands from those who think this statement is false.
3. Explain that consumers do have the same rights when they buy during the sales and that the class is going to work together in pairs to find out more about rights when shopping at sale time.
4. Divide the class into pairs.
5. Distribute one copy of Student resource sheet: Fill in the blanks to each pair and invite them to work together to complete the worksheet. Point out that the first word has been completed for them and the missing words from the remaining sentences are jumbled up at the top of their worksheet.
6. Once they have completed their worksheets invite pairs of students to swap their worksheets for correction.
7. Read through each of the sentences on the worksheet, giving the correct answer as you go.
Note: Depending on your class you may wish to share some of the information provided in Teacher resource sheet: Rights during sales.
8. Facilitate a short whole class discussion using the following questions as prompts:
- Name one thing you learnt during this activity
- Name one thing that surprised you
- What would you like to know more about?
