European Union (Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition) Regulations 2026
The European Union (Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition) Regulations 2026 is bringing important changes to Irish law on consumer information and environmental marketing claims.
From 27 September 2026, all traders that sell to EU consumers (instore or online) must provide clearer, more accurate information, especially in relation to:
- environmental claims
- durability and reparability of products
- goods that rely on software or digital elements
- warranties and guarantees.
The 2026 Regulations will update two key pieces of Irish consumer law:
- the Consumer Protection Act 2007
- the Consumer Rights Act 2022
These changes are part of a wider EU initiative to strengthen consumer protections against false or unverified environmental and product durability claims and help consumers make more informed purchasing decisions.
Further details on the new requirements are available in the CCPC’s European Union (Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition) Regulations 2026: Guidance for business document.
