How can you keep your home safe when using gas and electrical appliances?
To help keep your home safe, always use a qualified and registered person to install your gas or electrical appliances.
You should also make sure your appliances meet safety standards. Gas, electrical, and hybrid products for use in the home must display the CE mark and must meet specific safety regulations:
- European Union (Appliances Burning Gaseous Fuels) Regulations 2018 [S.I. No. 126/2018], as amended by European Union (Appliances Burning Gaseous Fuels) Regulations 2022 [S.I. No. 13/2022].
- European Union (Low Voltage Electrical Equipment) Regulations 2016 [S.I. No. 345/2016], as amended by European Union (Low Voltage Electrical Equipment) Regulations 2022 [S.I. No. 14/2022].
What should you do when installing gas or electrical equipment?
- Always use a qualified person to install equipment such as cookers or boilers
- Make sure the installer has the relevant certification or registration to do the job safely

- For electrical work, check the Safe Electric website for a list of registered electrical contractors in your area
