CCPC releases financial literacy resources for all Junior Cycle maths students
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has expanded its financial education initiatives to reach all Junior Cycle maths students.
The CCPC has already developed a suite of resources for Junior Cycle Business Studies, Home Economics and Leaving Certificate Applied. Designed to make financial learning engaging and practical, these resources use a range of methodologies including role play, case studies, games, quizzes, templates and videos.
Building on this work, the CCPC has created new videos on VAT, interest on loans and compound interest for Junior Cycle Mathematics. Developed in consultation with Oide and aligned with the Junior Cycle mathematics specifications, the materials are accompanied by a range of classroom-ready teaching resources that will help students connect mathematical concepts with real-world financial decisions.
Embedding financial literacy within mathematics ensures that all young people, regardless of subject choice, engage with essential financial literacy concepts and develop the skills needed to make informed financial decisions and become confident consumers.
Muriel Dolan, Deputy Director of Financial Education at CCPC, said:
“Our financial habits are embedded from an early age, so it’s vital that we meet students where they’re at when it comes to helping them build the skills and knowledge they need.
“By connecting mathematical concepts with everyday financial decision-making, these resources help students build confidence, develop essential life skills and gain a deeper understanding of how mathematics applies in the real world.
“These videos are just one of the many resources the CCPC has in promoting financial education, which is critical as we move through Ireland’s first National Financial Literacy Strategy.”
You can find the maths videos on the CCPC website.
