CCPC's Gráinne Griffin appointed Financial Literacy Ambassador for Ireland

• The appointment is in addition to Griffin's new role of Director of Financial Education at the CCPC.
• Griffin will act as a spokesperson on financial literacy for Ireland and join a network of European Commission ambassadors tasked with promoting the EU’s Financial Literacy Strategy

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) welcomes the appointment of its Director of Financial Education Gráinne Griffin as a Financial Literacy Ambassador for Ireland, announced today by the Tánaiste and Minister for Finance, Simon Harris.  

The appointment forms part of the European Commission's EU Financial Literacy Strategy, which aims to strengthen financial literacy across Member States and support citizens in making informed financial decisions.

Financial Literacy Ambassadors will play an important role in promoting financial education, amplifying key financial literacy messages, and supporting the implementation of Ireland's National Financial Literacy Strategy.  It aims to empower EU citizens with a vibrant, healthy, and confident relationship with their finances.

Gráinne Griffin, Director of Financial Education at the CCPC and a longstanding advocate for consumer and financial education, has extensive experience helping consumers navigate important financial decisions, understand their rights, and improve their financial wellbeing.

Announcing the appointment, Tánaiste and Minister for Finance, Simon Harris, said:

I am delighted to appoint Gráinne Griffin as one of Ireland’s first ever financial literacy ambassadors. 

Seeing her work in supporting the implementation of our National Financial Literacy Strategy, I am confident she will bring her passion, expertise and energy for financial literacy to this role, helping to make financial literacy relevant and accessible for people across the country. 

Whether its managing day-to-day finances, planning for major life events or investing for the future – having the confidence and knowledge to make informed financial decisions can make a real difference. 

As we prepare to introduce the new Investment Account, building financial literacy and confidence has never been more important.

We want people to feel empowered to save and invest, and to have access to trusted information that helps them make choices that are right for them. 

Working closely with my Department, Gráinne will represent Ireland as part of an EU network of financial literacy ambassadors and continue to support the delivery of the National Financial Literacy Strategy.

I look forward to working with her as we continue to improve financial literacy, strengthen financial resilience and help more people build a secure financial future.

The CCPC is committed to playing a leading role in promoting financial education, and the recent establishment of a dedicated Financial Education Division, led by Gráinne, reflects the importance we place on helping consumers build the knowledge, skills and confidence to make informed financial decisions. 

As a key contributor to the implementation of the National Financial Literacy Strategy, we work closely with government departments, regulators, consumer organisations, educators and community groups to improve access to financial education and information. 

We have no doubt that Gráinne will be an outstanding advocate for these objectives in her role as Financial Literacy Ambassador.

Under the EU Financial Literacy Strategy, ambassadors will help communicate key messages about financial literacy, promote financial education initiatives, engage with the public and media, and support citizens in accessing reliable financial information and resources. The ambassadors will also support the implementation of Ireland's National Financial Literacy Strategy.
