This website is partially compliant with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 level AA, due to the issues and exemptions listed below.
Parts of the ccpc.ie website are not fully accessible, for example:
- Images: Some images do not have text alternatives
- HTML structure: Some pages do not use heading tags in the correct order, or are missing an H1 tag
- Keyboard operable: There are areas of the site that cannot be operated using a keyboard
- PDF content: Sometimes information is stored in PDF files which are not fully accessible. For example, some documents do not use headings in a meaningful way or contain readable text elements
- Colour: A small number of visual elements on the site do not have a clear contrast between the text and the background and as a result may be hard to read
- Forms: Not all form elements have meaningful labels which can be read using assistive devices such as screen-reading software

Work to improve
In late 2021, the CCPC, along with our website development agency, carried out an accessibility audit of our website. The results showed that we have work to do in order achieve compliance on our website. Since then we have put in place an action plan to address the issues.
The first phase of this plan is to address known technical template issues with the system we use to create and display web content. The second phase of the plan is to address content accessibility fixes on the website, such as use of headings, alt text etc. All CCPC employees involved in creating web content and services receive training in how to write content in a way that supports a diversity of users.
Each week we monitor a scan of a random selection of pages on ccpc.ie by the National Disability Authority (NDA) and seek to understand and resolve issues raised internally or with our third-party web development partner. We welcome feedback from our users on other areas for improvement.
Our team are supported by evaluation from a third-party expert. This work adds to the information from the weekly scan, self-audit and user feedback to help us better understand how users with a range of needs and access requirement experience our site and how we can improve.
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared on 15 August 2022.
To understand the accessibility of our site we:
- Completed an automated accessibility audit in line with the EU Web Accessibility Directive and reviewed the issues highlighted during the audit of content.
- The site was evaluated by a third-party expert.
A range of tools including but not limited to Chrome Developer Tools, WCAG Contrast Checker, VoiceOver for Mac were used during these evaluations.
