UPC/Broadworks

M/10/009

Completed

Transaction details

UPC Communications Ireland Limited (“UPC Ireland”) will acquire sole control of certain business assets of Broadworks Communications Limited (“Broadworks”) in voluntary liquidation.

The Competition Authority has formed the view that the proposed acquisition does not raise any competition concerns in the State. As with all media mergers which could otherwise be put into effect, the parties could only proceed with this merger if the Minister for Enterprise Trade and Innovation did not direct the Competition Authority to carry out a full investigation within 10 days after the date of the Authority’s decision. The Minister did not make such a request.
