The CCPC conducted an inspection at Quill's Woollen Market, 1 High Street, Killarney Co. Kerry on 18 September 2024. During this inspection, it was observed that the Trader sold a variety of t-shirts and hooded sweatshirts with ‘Killarney Ireland’ printed on the front of them in the Killarney Premises. The hooded sweatshirts had a swing tag attached with the words ‘Made in Ireland’. The CCPCs found that the care label for a number of hooded sweatshirts had been visibly removed so that the country of manufacture was not visible. The CCPC found one hooded sweatshirt was found to have its care label fully intact, indicating that the geographical origin of the hooded sweatshirt was Pakistan.
The CCPC conducted a second inspection at Quill's Woollen Market, Main Street, Kenmare Co. Kerry on 7 November 2024. The CCPC observed that the clothing section of these premises sold a variety of t-shirts and hooded sweatshirts with ‘Ring of Kerry’ printed on the front of them. The hooded sweatshirts also had a ‘Quills’ tag embroidered on their inside and a swing tag attached with Quills ‘Made in Ireland’ on them which also displayed the price. The CCPC noted that the care label had been visibly removed so that the country of manufacture was not visible. One hooded sweatshirt was found to have its care label still fully intact. This label indicated that the geographical origin of the product was Pakistan.
The CCPC brought a prosecution over the alleged offences on 6 January 2026. On 19 May 2026, the case was heard before the Killarney District Court and the trader pleaded guilty to two summons for providing false or misleading information as to the geographical origin or commercial origin of a products in question, in contravention of the relevant legislation.
On 19 May 2026 Judge David Waters convicted the trader and fined them €500 and ordered them to pay the CCPC €1000 in costs.
