Brown Thomas Arnotts Limited, the trader, was required to indicate the correct prior price of each product to which a price reduction announcement applies. Following an investigation by the CCPC into the use of price reduction announcements on the trader’s websites, www.brownthomas.com and www.arnotts.ie, during the 2024/2025 winter sales period, including the 2025 Black Friday period, the CCPC found the trader to be in breach of this requirement.
The CCPC brought a prosecution over the alleged offences on 20 November 2025. On 26 January 2026, the case was heard before the Dublin District Court and the trader pleaded guilty to a summons for failing to indicate, in respect of price reduction announcements, the correct prior price of the products in question, in contravention of the relevant legislation.
On 20 March 2026, Judge Michael Ramsey, after ordering the trader to make a donation of €1,000 to the Little Flower Penny Dinners charity, proceeded to strike out the charges without conviction.
