CCPC pensions research 2024
Summary
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) commissioned Ipsos B&A to conduct research into consumer attitudes and behaviours in relation to pensions and retirement planning. The survey was conducted in July 2024 and uncovered critical insights into the state of retirement planning amongst Irish adults.Publication details

Summary findings include:
- Approximately 6 in 10 of adults, not already retired, have a pension.
- While most of those with insufficient retirement planning are from younger age groups, around 1 in 5 of 45 – 64 year olds do not currently have a pension.
- 21% currently have no retirement arrangements in place, 4% higher than in 2023, but 4% lower than in 2022
- Two thirds (66%) have never talked one-to-one with a financial advisor Just over half (51%) always or generally review their annual pension statements.
- Cash savings play a strong role in retirement planning with 51% intending to use these (lower than in 2023).
