Global Money Week 2026: School Programmes
March 20, 2026
It’s the final day of our content for Global Money Week 2026! Throughout the week, we’ve brought you a series of news stories on all things money and staying safe online.
The goal of Global Money Week is to empower young people to engage with activities that help build their financial literacy. At last week’s launch event in Croke Park, students and teachers from all over Ireland presented their financial literacy projects as part of Our Money, Our Future, a CCPC sponsorship programme for post-primary schools and Youthreach centres to help young people build financial literacy skills.
Financial Education and the CCPC
The CCPC has a statutory role in financial education. Our financial education programmes in secondary schools include:
- Money Matters, a programme on personal finance for Junior Cycle teachers and students.
- Money Counts, which provides resources for the Leaving Cert Applied programme.
- Me and My Money; a unit of learning on Budgeting and Household Management to be used by Business Studies and Home Economics teachers in the classroom.
- Ábhair Airgid is a bespoke Irish-language resource for Business Studies and Home Economics teachers and students developed by the CCPC.
This year the CCPC also created educational math’s videos.

Global Money Week Partner Initiatives 2026
Our Global Money Week partners organised a series of events and initiatives for schools and young people this week. Below you may find some useful information and resources to bring back to the classroom:
Department of Finance
The Department of Finance supported the launch of Global Money Week 2026. A welcome message from The Tánaiste and Minister for Finance, Simon Harris was shared with attendees at the national launch event in Croke Park.
Central Bank of Ireland and Revenue
The Central Bank of Ireland participated in a panel with the students at St Mary’s Secondary School Ballina at the Global Money Week launch event in Croke Park. The student’s project was aimed at equipping their peers with practical skills in online consumer awareness, budgeting, and scam prevention. This involved a wide range of initiatives including designing quizzes, escape rooms, podcasts and infographics. In addition, the Revised Consumer Protection Code will come into effect at the end of March 2026. The Central Bank of Ireland GMW activities focused on promoting the elements of the Code that are relevant to young people. A flyer outlining the provisions of the Code for young people has been developed and distributed.
Revenue participated in a panel discussion with the learners from West Wicklow Youthreach. The learners researched and developed a digital platform to show different areas of finance in their lives both now and in the near future. The areas included investments, pay slips, budgeting and financial planning. They also created a booklet that will be available in their local community. Revenue also visited schools across Ireland to discuss taxes, payslips and Revenue accounts as well as promoting their Introduction to Tax module for TY students.
Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman (FSPO)
The FSPO focused on the role of the Ombudsman, fraud cases and money mules as well as building financial education awareness. There is a dedicated section on their website for GMW with links to case studies for complaints they’ve received in relation to fraud, explanatory videos and useful links to other organisations.
Banking and Payments Federation Ireland (BPFI)
On 10 March 2026, secondary schools in Ireland will competed in Irish finals of the European Money Quiz, sponsored by the BPFI. The live online Irish final sees students across Ireland play directly against each other in real time. The winning team will travel to Brussels to represent Ireland in the European Finals in May 2026, where they will compete with up to 30 countries across Europe. FraudSMART, is a fraud awareness initiative developed by the BPFI. A series of social media posts were run to highlight in particular the risks of money muling for young people and how to avoid it. The BPFI will also host the online Senior Economists Masterclass 2026 for 5th and 6th year business and economics students across Ireland, on Tuesday 24th March. This is a fantastic opportunity for students in the Leaving Cert cycle to gain insights from Ireland’s top economists ahead of their exams.
