Toyota recalls passenger vehicles Corolla, Auris and Yaris
May 28, 2019
Toyota Ireland is carrying out a voluntary recall of Corolla, Auris and Yaris models.
The subject vehicles are equipped with front passenger air bag inflators which contain a non-desiccated, phase stabilized ammonium nitrate propellant. The risk may arise in the inflators due to the propellant degradation occurring after prolonged exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling. Activation of a non-desiccated ammonium nitrate inflator with degraded propellant may result in an inflator rupture. An inflator rupture may cause metal fragments to pass through the air bag and into the vehicle interior at high speed, which may result in injury or death to vehicle occupants.
Models Toyota Corolla were manufactured between January 2011 and March 2013. Models Toyota Auris were manufactured between January 2011 and May 2012. Models Toyota Yaris were manufactured between January 2011 and July 2011. There are 8,585 affected vehicles on the Irish market.
