Toyota Ireland recalls Prius

September 14, 2016

Toyota Ireland is carrying out a voluntary recall of certain models of the Prius produced between December 2015 and May 2016.

The subject vehicles are equipped with a “hybrid” type front passenger air bag inflator which contains compressed gas and propellant in the same combustion chamber.

Misassembled / improper welding may cause partial inflation of the front passenger air bag without a deployment demand. This has been observed when the vehicle is parked and unoccupied for a period of time. An airbag that inflates in this manner can, under some circumstances, increase the risk of injury and the possibility of a crash.

There have been 99 affected vehicles placed on the Irish market.

What to do:

Toyota Ireland will be writing directly to those customers involved in this recall to arrange to have the repair carried out.  The letter will advise you to contact your nearest Toyota Dealer/Authorised Repairer who will arrange to do the check/repair free of charge. Toyota Ireland can be contacted on: 01 4190222.
