BMW recalls 1 Series, 5 Series and 7 Series vehicles

September 8, 2011

BMW is carrying out a voluntary recall of some BMW 1 Series, 5 Series and 7 Series models.

The affected models are:

X3, X5/E60, E61, E70, E81, E82, E83, E87, E88, F101 and F102 vehicles with diesel engines manufactured from 20 August 2008 to 12 June 2009.

The recall is due to an issue with the fuel filter heater system (FFH), which may overheat and cause a fire. The FFH is used to warm diesel fuel when the vehicle is driven at low outdoor temperatures.

The recall affects 197 BMWs in Ireland.

What to do:

Letters will be sent by BMW to owners of the affected vehicles informing them of the recall and asking that they arrange for an appointment to have any required work completed. The work carried out as part of the recall will be completed free of charge and will take about two hours.

Alternatively, owners of these vehicles can contact BMW Customer Service on 1890 719 420* to arrange for an appointment.

* Note that the rates charged for the use of 1890 numbers may vary among different service providers.
