Toyota recalls Passenger vehicles Prius,C-HR and Prius PHV

September 6, 2018

Toyota Ireland is carrying out a voluntary recall of Prius, C-HR and Prius PHV.

The subject vehicles have an engine wire harness which is connected to the hybrid vehicle Power Control Unit.  The wire harness has a cover attached at this connection.  Due to assembly variation, a portion of the wire harness could contact the cover.  If dust has accumulated on the wire harness or the cover, vibration during vehicle use may cause the insulation on the wires to wear over time and expose the core wire, causing an electrical short circuit to occur between the damaged wires and generate heat.  If sufficient heat is generated, there is an increased risk of a vehicle fire.

Vehicles affected in the Irish market:

Toyota Prius manufactured between             Dec 2015 – Apr 2018 affects 761 vehicles

Toyota C-HR manufactured between             Sept 2016 – May 2018 affects 3,030 vehicles.

Toyota Prius PHV manufactured between     Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 affects 78 vehicles

What to do:

Toyota Ireland will be writing directly to those customers involved in this recall to arrange to have the engine wire harness inspected and replaced.  The letter will also advise consumers affected by this voluntary recall to contact their nearest Toyota Dealer/Authorised Repairer who will arrange to do the repair free of charge. Toyota Ireland can be contacted on: 01 419 0222.
