Residential care services for the elderly

24 July 2017: Consumer protection legislation – the European Communities (Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts) Regulations 1995 – provides specific protections to consumers who enter into standard form contracts for goods or services. These protections ensure that consumers are not bound by unfair terms and mean that standard terms must be provided to consumers in plain and understandable language.

The CCPC is aware of issues being experienced in consumer contracts for residential care services for the elderly. We will shortly be engaging with the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) to discuss areas of interest in relation to such contracts.
