Consumer Switching Behaviour 2010

A survey commissioned by the National Consumer Agency and carried out by Amárach Research shows that overall, across a wide range of key expenditure sectors, 83% of consumers who had switched service providers in the last 12 months said they had saved money.

The research asked consumers whether they actually saved money when they changed their supplier for 15 categories of products and services, including electricity, car insurance, mobile phone service, TV, Broadband and banking providers.

The results showed that 92% of those who had switched electricity providers had actually made savings.

Savings also resulted for:

  • 88% of home insurance switchers
  • 84% of those who changed car insurance providers
  • 76% of people who changed mobile service providers


Those who changed broadband/internet access provider reported savings of 76% and 74% of those who switched TV service provider said they had saved money.
