CCPC Pensions Research 2025


The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) commissioned Ipsos B&A to conduct research in July 2025 to understand how Irish adults are preparing financially for their retirement.

Summary findings include:

  • While 60% of Irish adults have some form of pension, a significant 26% remain completely unprepared.
  • One-third of pension holders regret not starting their contributions earlier.
  • 21% of 45–54-year-olds have no retirement arrangements
  • 36% of pension holders are unsure how pensions work
  • 66% have never spoken to a financial advisor
  • More than half of those with a pension lack confidence in its ability to provide a good standard of living in retirement.
  • Pension ownership is lowest among 18 to 24-year-olds (18%), but worryingly, 21% of those aged between 45 and 54 report having no retirement arrangements in place
