Prosecution - DID Electrical Appliances Limited
DID Electrical Appliances Limited, the trader, was required to indicate the correct prior price of each product to which a price reduction announcement applies. Following an investigation by the CCPC into the use of price reduction announcements on the trader’s website, www.did.ie, during the 2023/2024 winter sales period, including the 2023 Black Friday period, the CCPC found the trader to be in breach of this requirement.
The CCPC brought a prosecution over the alleged offences on 20 November 2024. On 10 March 2025, the case was heard before Dublin District Court and the trader pleaded guilty to a summons for failing to indicate, in respect of a price reduction announcement, the correct prior price of the product in question, in contravention of the relevant legislation.
On 26 May 2025, Judge Anthony Halpin, after ordering the trader to make a donation of €1,000 to the Little Flower Penny Dinners charity and pay €2,460 in costs to the CCPC, applied section 1(1) of the Probation of Offenders Act 1907 in lieu of conviction.
