CCPC publishes details of 15 compliance notices, undertakings and fixed payment notices issued to traders in Ireland

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has today published details of undertakings made by three retailers as well as fixed payment notices and compliance notices issued to five retailers across the country.
The measures are the result of inspections and investigations carried out by CCPC officers.
Undertakings
- Rath-Wood Home and Garden World Ltd, commonly known as Rathwood, signed legally binding commitments to comply with consumer protection law by refunding certain consumers. (link)
- Ofwal Ltd trading as com signed legally binding commitments to comply with sales pricing legislation, following a CCPC investigation into the use of price reduction announcements on Easons.com during the 2023/24 winter sales period. (link)
- Shop Direct Ireland Ltd trading as Very signed legally binding commitments to comply with sales pricing legislation following a CCPC investigation by the CCPC into the use of price reduction announcements on Very.ie during the 2023/24 winter sales period. (link)
Fixed payment notices
- Cedarglade Ltd trading as SuperValu, Aston Quay, Dublin 2 was issued two fixed payment notices for failing to display correct prices. (1|2)
- Corajio Unlimited Company trading as Mr Price was issued six fixed payment notices for failing to display the unit price of certain products in their stores in Midleton, Co. Cork and Killarney, Co. Kerry. (Midleton: 1|2|3; Killarney: 1|2|3)
- Petrogas Group Ltd trading as Applegreen Athlone, Co. Westmeath, was issued a fixed payment notice for failing to display the price of a product in the forecourt shop. (link)
Compliance notices
- Phoenix Mobile and Communications Ltd trading as Munster Tech Centre was issued two compliance notices for providing information on their website, munstertechcentre.ie, that would be likely to deceive or mislead consumers as to their statutory cancellation rights. (1|2)
- Hot Fox Ltd trading as CocoBoutique was issued a compliance notice for providing information on their website that would be likely to deceive or mislead consumers as to their statutory cancellation rights. (link)
Brian McHugh, CCPC Chairperson, said:
“Consumers have very strong rights and the CCPC is here to uphold them. These latest enforcement updates arise from CCPC inspections of supermarkets, petrol stations and other retailers, as well as investigations opened on the back of consumer complaints to our helpline.
“In addition to our regular in-store and online inspections and ongoing investigations, CCPC officers are closely monitoring trader compliance with the legally binding commitments published today. Failure to adhere to the terms of these commitments will result in enforcement action.”
