Ads can also be misleading if important information is left out.<\/p>\n<p>Misleading advertising covers claims made to consumers by manufacturers, distributors and retailers. It can include content in ads, catalogues, websites, social media, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Examples could include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a false claim or impression about the details of a good or service. For example, a product is a different colour to an ad<\/li>\n<li>misrepresenting the price. For example, advertising a product at sale price when it is not on sale<\/li>\n<li>misrepresenting your consumer rights. For example, saying your consumer rights do not apply when you buy during a sale<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Consumer reviews<\/h2>\n<p>Under consumer law, business must make sure any reviews they show are genuine. They must always take reasonable steps to ensure they come from genuine consumers. Businesses also can\u2019t pay anyone to submit false or misleading reviews, or post false reviews themselves.<\/p>\n<h2>What can you do about misleading advertising?<\/h2>\n<p>You should <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccpc.ie\/consumers\/consumers-home\/contact\/form\/\">contact us<\/a> if you feel an advertisement is misleading or false. We are responsible for enforcing the rules around advertising in Ireland. We can take action against businesses that we find\u00a0 have misled consumers.<\/p>\n<p>You can also contact:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the <a href=\"https:\/\/adstandards.ie\/\">Advertising Standards Authority (ASA)<\/a> about potentially misleading ads. The ASA is set up by the advertising industry to promote better standards<\/li>\n<li>the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fsai.ie\/makeitbetter\">Food Safety Authority of Ireland<\/a> on the advertisement of food products<\/li>\n<li>the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.centralbank.ie\/\">Central Bank of Ireland<\/a> on the advertising of credit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is misleading advertising?
