CCPC advises consumers to remain aware of Brexit changes when shopping online

December 30, 2020

As the 31st of December approaches, the CCPC are advising consumers that their rights will change from 1 January when shopping online from UK websites.

From 1 January, EU consumer rights will no longer automatically apply to online purchases from retailers in the UK. Consumers will continue to be protected by UK law and by the terms and conditions of their purchase however it may be more difficult to resolve a dispute with a retailer based in the UK.

Consumers may also face additional charges as packages received from the UK (excluding Northern Ireland) will be subject to VAT and other charges from 1 January. Higher charges may apply to goods that are not made in the UK.

Consumers can use this Brexit checklist when shopping online. Further information on Brexit and consumer rights when shopping online can be found here.
