Establishment of the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission
November 3, 2014
On the 31st October we merged with the Competition Authority to form the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (the Commission). This new body will be responsible for enforcing both consumer protection and competition law in Ireland.
Our mission is to make markets work better for consumers and businesses. We will do this by helping to create open and competitive markets by working to remove unnecessary barriers to competition and we will support markets where businesses actively compete. This will benefit everyone; consumers, businesses and the economy.
We will also help you make informed choices and protect you from unfair business practices. With increasing complexity in some markets, new ways of purchasing goods and services and new ways of doing business, it can be hard to make an informed choice or assert your rights when things go wrong. We will be there to help when you need us, through this website which has well over 1 million visits this year, and our helpline (1890 432 432).
