Summary:

Adrian Hardiman, a car dealer of Aughadrestan, Loughglynn, Co. Roscommon has been convicted of three offences of misleading consumers about the history of second-hand cars.

The investigation was opened following complaints to the CCPC’s helpline in 2020. The CCPC brought a prosecution and on 8 November 2024 in the Ballaghaderreen District Court, Adrian Hardiman pleaded guilty to three summonses in relation to a misleading commercial practice by providing false information to consumers in respect of a car’s usage or prior history, i.e.  a false mileage reading in relation to the vehicle’s odometer. Adrian Hardiman also paid compensation to the three consumers.

At the Ballaghaderreen District Court on Friday 13 June 2025, Judge Deirdre Gearty sentenced Adrian Hardiman to 80 hours of community service in lieu of three months’ imprisonment. He was also ordered to pay the CCPC’s costs of €8,241 within five months.
